Boston Under Quarantine
Since the second week of March 2020, similarly to many millions of others around the world, we had been primarily confined to our flat in the South Boston/Fort Point neighborhood, staying safe and adapting our work and life to the indoors. Within a week into this new existence, while transitioning my teaching online, I started photographing the deserted streets of downtown Boston using my large format film camera. I did this for 2-3 mornings every week until early May, when restrictions were lifted a bit and life started to return to the city.
My drive and inspiration to go out there and make these seemingly eerie photographs with a rather cumbersome camera on a tripod was fueled both by my obligation to this historical time as an artist and also my intense need to photograph. This body of work included more than 200 photographs exploring the empty streets and neighborhoods of Boston. The work has been noted by The Atlantic Magazine and was published in their seminal pandemic issue during summer 2020.
